Lifes Observations....

Posted on: June 4, 2008 10:18 am

I am not going off on a tanget about gas prices.  Everywhere I look around the media is making its' apacolptic statements and the masses are at the pump doing the same two step about "I cannot believe it is costing this much for gas...."  I have seen it for weeks now and it was at the point this morning where people were throwing the F-bomb left and right.  I do not like it one bit either, but here is where it gets funny...

On my way to the gym, I had motorist, after motorist going at least 70-80 mph.  Did they know that ever 5 mph over 60, the average car uses an extra $0.20 cents per mile of gas (given if gas were $3.00 a gallon), or reduces mileage by 2-4 mpg.  I have no pity towards the people at the pump complaining about gas.  DRIVE SLOWER....BURN LESS FUEL....SAVE MONEY.....GO TO THE GAS STATION ONE LESS TIME EVERY TWO MONTHS......

Reducing mileage of 2-4 per mile on a 17 gallon tank of gas (average gas tank in US Cars and Trucks) is costing each tank between 34-68 miles.  Over a year (tank a week) this is a loss of 1768 to 3536 miles each year.  Even if the car got 30 mpg, this is an extra 3 1/2 tanks to 7 tanks of gas per year for your car or truck.  The average car or truck gets 21 mpg on the road.  This means that you will go to the gas station 5 to 10 times more per year.  It costs that driver (assuming $4.00 per gallon gas) anywhere from $340 to $680 additional dollars per year.

This is not "your carbon footprint" tangent.  This is a "quit complaining about your situtaion and do something about it" tangent.  SLOW DOWN....SAVE MONEY...

Lifes Observations....

This is in no way a shot at the writer of this blog or anybody in perticular, I just feel that it has to be said somewhere.

Better yet buy a Prius, forget that the vast majority of all of the electricity that your car runs on comes from the burning of fossil fuels involving a process which is less efficient with fuel than the process in a normal car's engine. But still save money because your car has 40 or something miles per gallon and you can act like you care about the environment because you own a Prius when all you really care about is saving money.

If everyone is worried about gas price buy a diesel powered car. You can convert it to run on biofuel which is used cooking oil. you can go to any restuarant in the country and they'll probably just give the stuff you for free, the conversion is simple and can save you a ton of money

Yes, the conversion can be simple.....................but you will need room for the piece of equipment that turns the oil into biofuel.  its just not that easy.

And I agree COMPLETELY!!  people want to complain about the prices, yet they step on the gas when a light turns green, they speed on the highways, they speed up just to slam on their brakes....................I mean, people are just MORONS!!  Gas over in some European countries is over $8 a gallon.  they buy smaller cars, walk or ride their bike when they can, car pool, and Other small things so that they dont have to drive.  I try to ride my bike when going to the store, and if I have to drive, I try to make all the stops in one trip.

Yes, I cant stand $4 a gallon either....................and it will probably just get worse.  But instead of complain all the time (because we all know that wont do anything), drive a little smarter.

Drive 60 mph or below
dont race to the red light just to stop
dont tailgate (the more you tap your brakes, that is energy you are losing)
and probably the most important....................dont drive if you dont have to.  get a bike, get out, exercise and enjoy the weather.

About My never ending Story......
You know what really bugs me about life. Every single person we elect into office, big or small, state or federal, seems to know the "best intrest" for everyone of their constituents. Take my great governor of Maryland. He thinks everyone should do this, he will do that... all he has done is line his political pockets for higher office since his days at city council. He can care less about the effects of taxes he wants to raise, on everyone not just lower class or higher classes. What he supposive measures to stop this or stop that to return. Look at what has happened, absolutely NOTHING. JUST A SHOCKER TO ME..... Look, this is not a bash to this party or that party, because in all honesty they both have flaws....These people try to put thier nose into everything...Steriods, False Testimony for athletes...to what GET THEIR NAME INTO THE HEADLINES. This is the same time that we have dispear throughout the South, murders in every city, drugs use at an all time high. Even though Sports are a stepping stone for our youth, these "elected officals" need to see the big picture and not the small one within Baseballs inner circle....
