CFU threatens Antigua with suspension over debt to former general secretary

KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) -The two-island nation of Antigua and Barbuda will be suspended from all Caribbean Football Union matches if they fail to pay over a US$177,000 (?118,800) debt owed to former general secretary Chet Greene by Thursday, officials said.

"The general secretary wrote to Antigua and Barbuda after a decision taken by the executive committee of CFU to pay over a debt to Chet Greene or they shall be suspended," Caribbean Football Union head Jack Warner said during a Monday phone interview.

Mervyn Richards, president of the Antigua and Barbuda Football Federation, said the country's soccer federation has appealed the decision and voiced surprise at the looming suspension.

"We are not in a position to pay that amount of money," Richards said.
